Siloam Springs Library App

UX Design

I conceptualized this app for the Siloam Springs Library as a part of a design challenge. The app had to accomplish one main task – allowing users to find and check out library books easily.

Design Goals

I had 24 hours to research and create this app. The first steps in my process included conducting user research, creating personas, and establishing goals.

Features & Functions

  • Speedy search & checkout
  • Quick login process
  • Ability to pay fines and renew books
  • Ability to locate books on library shelves

Library App

Research Based Observations

I began my research with a trip to the library and checking out a book. Doing so helped me brainstorm several different solutions to how the checkout process could be made just as (if not more) efficient on an app. Based on demographic research, I discovered that the typical user would likely be age 12-33, a young parent, and female. Because of their on-the-go lifestyles, these users are looking for an app that is quick and efficient. After conducting interviews with several women who are members of the Siloam Springs Library, I learned that they were frustrated that they had to pay fines and renew their books in-person. I created a ‘pay now’ and ‘renew’ feature for overdue books because of this feedback.
